What is Stainless Steel?

Stainless steel is a metal also known as inox stell or inox, meaning that it does not oxidize, corrode, rust or stain with water, unlike ordinary steel. It is in fact a steel alloy with chromium that renders the steel stainless.

Stainless steel was first created in the 19th century and soon was applied to create kitchen utensils that could withstand constant and harsh use.

Why Buy a Stainless Steel Teapot?

Light and resistant, it is perfect for people in a hurry.

  • Ceramic and particularly glass teapots can break if you accidently bang them against the sink or the tap while washing. There is no risk of breaking a stainless steel teapot, which makes them much more durable than many other teapots.

  • Some teapots may actually be used directly over the gas burner, something you can’t do with any other kind of teapot and the steel alloy in teapot will also keep your tea hot for a long time.

There are also a few disadvantages to these teapots:

  • If you bump them against a hard surface, they won’t break, but they can dent. And they can scratch if you use harsh materials to clean them.

  • The whole teapot is made from stainless steel, which includes the handle. So when the teapot becomes hot, it can be too hot to handle without a good oven mitt.

How to choose a stainless steel teapot?

It’s hard to go wrong when choosing a stainless steel teapot, they are cheap and available everywhere. Here are just a few pointers to guide you:

  • Size: these teapots come in many sizes. You can choose 2 cup-sized teapot or a bigger teapot that can serve more cups. It all depends on your daily needs.

  • Shape: stainless steel teapots come in round shapes, more adequate for brewing tea, or more slender shapes, perfectly suitable for just boiling water.

  • Handle: these teapots can get pretty hot and you risk burning yourself. So it may be best to look for a teapot with a wood or plastic handle.

  • Infusers: some teapots come with infusers, which makes a nice alternative to tea bags or tea balls and also makes cleansing the teapot a lot easier.

Now it is just a question of choosing which tea you are going to drink first.

How to care for your teapot

This is an easy teapot to take care of. Use a soft sponge to clean the inside of your teapot and then a soft cloth to dry it and you’re done.

Be sure not to put your teapot away with water residue inside and don’t let your teapot boil dry, it can be dangerous and can lead to scorch marks.

Just in case, here are few tips that can help keep your teapot shiny if it does develop stains over time that regular washing liquid won’t help.

  • Method 1: Get some baking soda and mix with water to form a paste. With a bottlebrush, scrub the paste very gently where stains have begun to appear.

  • Method 2: Soak your teapot overnight in a diluted solution of bleach or vinegar. Use equal parts of vinegar and water.

Whatever method you choose to clean your teapot, remember to rinse it very thoroughly with water before putting it to use again.

To keep the teapot shiny, use a soft cloth to buff it.

Moroccan Mint Tea

Traditionally, Moroccan mint tea is brewed in an engraved silver teapot. However, as these can be rather expensive, the stainless steel tea is a more affordable alternative.

While the silver teapot is reserved for more ceremonial occasions when receiving guests, the stainless steel teapot can be used for everyday mint tea at any hour for any occasion.

Let’s take a quick look at this refreshing tea.

The Moroccan mint tea is a blend of Chinese gunpowder green tea and fresh spearmint leaves.

  • In your teapot place 1 tablespoon of green tea and pour one cup of boiling water, swirl the water to warm the teapot and to wash the tea leaves. Pour the water out, making sure the leaves remain in the pot.

  • Now pour 4 fresh cups of hot water to your tea, let steep for 2 minutes and then add mint and sugar to taste and steep for a 3-4 additional minutes.

This tea is served in small decorated glasses, poured from a height of half a meter or more to oxygenate the tea, improving its flavor by making the tea leaves swirl.

Using this technique produces foam on the surface of the liquid.
